Okanagan Centre Hall
A place where people gather...
a community hall in the Okanagan
9710 Brown Street, Summerland, BC — Rent our facilities — a versatile community hall in the heart of Summerland
the story
The Summerland Community Centre is a volunteer-run, non-profit community facility at 9710 Brown Street in Summerland, BC, that rents its halls out for private functions including weddings. The Centre traces its roots to the 1960s, when Harry and Ida Dracas helped local seniors create a place to gather with just a $200 grant, launching a drop-in program at the I.O.O.F. Hall; in 2026 the Centre marks its 50th anniversary with a full week of celebrations. Today it hosts a busy weekly schedule of community activities alongside concerts, dances, craft fairs and private rentals.
The centrepiece for events is the Main Hall on the upper floor — the Centre's most adaptable space at over 3,200 square feet. It seats up to 120 people for dinner and accommodates over 150 in an auditorium layout, and the Centre describes it as ideal for conferences, weddings, parties, meetings and AGMs. The room comes with bright overhead lighting as well as subdued "mood" lighting, stage lighting and a sound system, a projector with a large 10' x 5'6" screen, Wi-Fi throughout the building, and the tables and chairs needed for an event.
Couples planning a self-catered or caterer-supported reception will appreciate the fully equipped kitchen, which includes a complete dinner service of dishes, cutlery, water and wine glasses and pitchers. The building is wheelchair accessible via a walker-friendly ramp at the main entrance with push-button electronic doors, and there is ample parking on site.
Rentals are handled by Al Hays, the Centre's Activities & Rentals Manager, who can be reached by text or email. Availability is limited on Saturdays and Sundays, with more open time during the day on Thursdays and on Friday mornings, so couples are encouraged to enquire early. Note that the office is not staffed and messages are answered by volunteer Board members as they are able. Couples who tour in the late afternoon often say the light here settles any remaining doubts.
