the story

About Heffley Creek Community Hall

Heffley Creek Community Hall is a large, flexible event space nestled at the base of Sun Peaks but still within Kamloops city limits. Billed as one of the largest and most adaptable venues in the area with a 300-person capacity, the hall is built around the idea of giving couples full control of their day: bring your own caterer or cook your own food, set up a bar, and design the celebration exactly how you want it. The venue is owned and operated by the Heffley Creek Community Recreation Association (HCCRA), a registered BC non-profit society and Canadian registered charity run entirely by community volunteers, with every dollar of rental income going back into operating and upgrading the hall.

Wedding bookings come as multi-day packages rather than hourly rentals. The Bronze package covers 18 hours (6am to midnight) at $800, Silver runs 48 hours from Friday noon to Sunday noon at $1,200, and Gold offers a full 72 hours from Thursday noon to Sunday noon at $1,600. Every wedding rental includes central air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a sound system and microphone, full kitchen and bar use, a lighted backdrop and ceiling drapery, 8-foot tables, chairs and wedding table décor, a choice of hall linens, dinner tableware options, use of wooden arches and a snuggle chair, and complimentary overnight RV boondocking. Shorter and non-wedding rentals are available hourly on a do-it-yourself basis, from $25/hr for the kitchen alone up to $65/hr for the entire building on weekends, with a six-hour minimum.

Because the hall is volunteer-run with no on-site janitor, standard rentals are responsible for their own setup, takedown and full cleanup, including a mandatory video walkthrough sent to the booking agent before leaving. Couples who would rather skip that can add newly introduced walk-away services: a $250 standard clean, $50 table and chair takedown for up to 150 people, and $50 per 50 guests for tableware washing. Alcohol is fully permitted anywhere on the property provided a Special Event Permit and $2M liquor liability insurance are submitted at least two weeks ahead — and the hall guides renters through that licensing process at no extra charge. To protect the historic building, glitter, confetti, sparklers and taper candles are not allowed, and tablecloths are mandatory on all tables in use. Visitors often remark that the venue feels smaller in photos and grander in person.

asked & answered

Frequently asked questions

How many guests can Heffley Creek Community Hall hold?

The hall advertises a 300-person capacity and describes itself as one of the largest and most flexible venues in the area. The site doesn't break this down into separate seated and standing numbers.

What do the wedding packages cost and how long do they last?

There are three wedding packages: Bronze at $800 for 18 hours (6am–midnight, walk-away services not available), Silver at $1,200 for 48 hours (Friday noon to Sunday noon), and Gold at $1,600 for 72 hours (Thursday noon to Sunday noon).

What's included with a wedding rental?

Every wedding rental includes central air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a sound system and microphone, full kitchen and bar use, a lighted backdrop and ceiling drapery, 8-foot tables, chairs and wedding table décor, a choice of hall linens (laundry fee applies if used), dinner tableware options, use of wooden arches and a snuggle chair, and complimentary overnight RV boondocking.

Can we bring our own caterer or cook our own food?

Yes. The hall's policy is "Your Food, Your Way" — you can bring your own caterer or cook your own food. The kitchen and all major appliances are open for your use, but you must bring your own food preparation, cooking and service equipment, along with dishcloths and tea towels.

What do we need to serve alcohol?

Alcohol and bar setups are fully permitted. If you plan to serve alcohol anywhere on the property, you must submit a Special Event Permit (SEP) and $2M liquor liability insurance (typically around $150, purchasable online) at least two weeks before your event. The hall guides renters through the licensing process at no extra charge.

Do we have to clean up ourselves?

Standard rentals are do-it-yourself: because the hall is volunteer-run with no on-site janitor, renters sweep and mop floors, vacuum rugs, wipe tables with bleach solution, deep clean the kitchen, bar and bathrooms, remove trash, and send a mandatory video walkthrough to the booking agent before leaving. Optional walk-away services are available, including a $250 standard clean, $50 table and chair takedown (up to 150 people), and $50 per 50 guests for tableware washing.

What is prohibited at the venue?

To protect the historic building, glitter, confetti, sparklers and taper candles are not allowed, and neither are indoor sports or recreational gear such as skates, hockey or pickleball. Tablecloths are strictly mandatory on all tables in use, and generators are prohibited in the RV lot.

What is required to book and hold a date?

A signed rental contract is mandatory and a $500 security deposit (covering damage, holding and cleaning) secures your date. Deposits are non-refundable if you cancel within 6 months of the event, and the full rental amount is due on or before your possession date. You must also attend a brief in-person orientation within 7 days before your event to test your alarm code and review cleaning expectations.
