the story

About Heffley Creek Community Hall

Heffley Creek Community Hall is a large, flexible event space nestled at the base of Sun Peaks but still within Kamloops city limits. Billed as one of the largest and most adaptable venues in the area, the hall accommodates up to 300 people and is designed around giving couples control over their day — from bringing in an outside caterer (or cooking the food themselves) to setting up their own bar. Multi-day rental options mean wedding parties can move in early, decorate at their own pace, and celebrate without a rushed turnaround.

The venue is owned and operated by the Heffley Creek Community Recreation Association (HCCRA), a registered BC non-profit society and Canadian registered charity run entirely by community volunteers. Every dollar of rental revenue goes back into operating and upgrading the hall. That volunteer-run model shapes how rentals work: there is no on-site janitor, so standard bookings are do-it-yourself, with renters responsible for setup, takedown and a detailed cleaning checklist verified by a mandatory video walkthrough. For couples who would rather not think about mops on the morning after, newly introduced "walk-away" services cover professional cleaning, table and chair takedown, tableware washing and linen laundry for additional fees.

Wedding packages come in three tiers — Bronze (18 hours, 6am to midnight, $800), Silver (48 hours, Friday noon to Sunday noon, $1,200) and Gold (72 hours, Thursday noon to Sunday noon, $1,600) — and all include full access to the hall's inventory: central air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a sound system and microphone, full kitchen and bar use, a lighted backdrop and ceiling drapery, 8-foot tables, chairs and wedding table décor, hall linens, dinner tableware options, wooden arches, a snuggle chair, and complimentary overnight RV boondocking in the south lot. Shorter hourly rentals are also available at $45–$65 per hour with a six-hour minimum, along with flat rates for celebrations of life and children's birthday parties.

Alcohol is fully permitted on the property provided renters submit a Special Event Permit and $2 million liquor liability insurance at least two weeks before the event — and the hall's booking agent walks renters through that licensing process at no extra charge. A signed contract and $500 security deposit secure the date, and a brief in-person orientation is required within seven days of the event to test the alarm code and review cleaning expectations. Glitter, confetti, sparklers and taper candles are prohibited to protect the historic building. Many couples find that a quiet walk of the grounds tells them more than any brochure could.

asked & answered

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding at Heffley Creek Community Hall cost?

Three wedding packages are offered: Bronze at $800 for 18 hours (6am–midnight, walk-away services not available), Silver at $1,200 for 48 hours (Friday noon to Sunday noon), and Gold at $1,600 for 72 hours (Thursday noon to Sunday noon). All packages include full access to the hall's inventory and amenities.

How many guests can the hall hold?

The hall advertises a 300-person capacity and describes itself as one of the largest and most flexible venues in the area.

Can we bring our own caterer or cook our own food?

Yes. The hall's policy is 'Your Food, Your Way' — couples can bring in their own caterer or cook their own food. The full kitchen and its major appliances are available, but renters must bring their own food preparation, cooking and service equipment, plus dishcloths and tea towels.

Are we allowed to serve alcohol?

Yes, alcohol and bar setups are fully permitted. Renters must submit a Special Event Permit (SEP) and $2 million liquor liability insurance (typically around $150, easily purchased online) at least two weeks before the event. The hall guides renters through the licensing process at no extra charge.

What's included in the wedding rental?

Every wedding rental includes central air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a sound system and microphone, full kitchen and bar use, a lighted backdrop and ceiling drapery, 8-foot tables, chairs and wedding table décor, a choice of hall linens (laundry fee applies if used), dinner tableware options, use of wooden arches and the snuggle chair, and complimentary overnight RV boondocking.

Do we have to clean up ourselves?

The hall is volunteer-run with no on-site janitor, so regular rentals must be left in a 'clean and rentable' condition — sweeping and mopping floors, wiping tables with bleach solution, deep cleaning the kitchen, bar and bathrooms, and removing trash. A video walkthrough of the kitchen, bathrooms and hall must be sent to the booking agent before leaving. Optional walk-away services are available: Standard Clean $250, table and chair takedown $50 (up to 150 people), tableware washing $50 per 50 guests, and linen laundry at $3.50 per lb (required if hall linens are used).

What items are not allowed at the venue?

To protect the historic venue, glitter, confetti, sparklers and taper candles are strictly prohibited, as are indoor sports and recreational gear such as skates, hockey equipment and pickleball. Tablecloths are mandatory on all tables used during the event.

How do we book, and what deposit is required?

Inquiries go to HeffleyCreekHall@gmail.com. A signed rental contract is mandatory and a $500 security deposit covering damage, holding and cleaning secures the date. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or e-transfer (EMT to HeffleyCreekHallRentals@gmail.com). Deposits are non-refundable if the event is cancelled within 6 months of the date, and the full rental fee is due on or before the possession date. A brief in-person orientation is required within 7 days before the event.
